Surplice.org
Saint Seiya Digital Preservation & Archaeology Project
For those who were around in the late 90s/early 2000s pre-Hades OVA era, you might remember Surplice.org — originally known as "Surplice: The Saint Seiya Underworld." It was run by a user named Kyrie and served as the definitive English bible for the 108 Specters when most of us were still relying on grainy manga scans and no translations.
After noticing the domain remained abandoned for over a decade, sitting available with no one wanting it, I couldn't let this piece of internet history fade away. As someone obsessed with digital preservation and the 'Old Web' anime culture of that era, this Chinese New Year marked the perfect occasion to splurge the money and begin a new year resolution to restore it as a historical archive.
This isn't aiming to be another fan site, but rather a digital culture project dedicated to reconstructing the original 108 Star directories, the specific translations Kyrie used, and the unique Underworld aesthetic that defined that corner of the web.
Seeking Community Help
To reconstruct this historical archive, we're looking for:
- ▸ Hard copies or backups of the original Surplice.org site
- ▸ Original high-resolution screenshots, specific fan-subbed clips from that era, or original Surplice diagrams
- ▸ Any leads on how to contact the original legendary maintainer, Kyrie — we'd love to get their blessing and any lore they still have
A digital archaeology project preserving the legacy of Saint Seiya's online community
